Information about MICHAEL W. DAVID, Ph.D.
Michael W. David is the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the Global Institute for Safe, Secure Energy Technologies (GISSET) based in Fukuoka, Japan. GISSET was established by Dr. David to support expanding requirements and interest in energy infrastructure security, nuclear power security and new energy technologies. It provides real-time support to industry, government and academic entities that are affiliated or associated with energy issues.
Dr. David graduated from Lehigh University with a BA in Foreign Affairs and a BS in Industrial Engineering. He holds an MS in System Management from the University of Southern California. While serving as an officer in the U.S. Army, he was chosen to study at the Defense Language Institute and the Foreign Service Institute and is fluent in Japanese. Dr. David is a graduate of the Stanford Graduate School of Business Executive Program, and has also studied Cryptography at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH).
Dr. David wrote his doctoral thesis on Critical Infrastructure Protection at Kyushu University, Japan. His research has focused on secure identity and access control systems, information analysis systems, security for the electrical power infrastructure and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
Dr. David served on active duty in the US Army in Korea, Okinawa and Japan from 1971 - 1981, and in the Army Reserve from 1981 - 1999. While on active duty, he served in reconnaissance, Special Forces and information warfare units. His last reserve service was with the US Mission to the UN in New York at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Dr. David joined the Cubic Corporation of San Diego, Ca. in 1982, serving as vice president in Tokyo, New York City, Singapore and Brussels. He has traveled extensively throughout Asia, the EU, Middle East and North Africa developing new markets and relationships with major corporate partners, the EU and NATO.
